The Greens 6 Point Plan for the Leichhardt ward.

  1. Stop WestConnex, invest in public transport

The Greens have been opposed to Westconnex from Day 1. WestConnex will increase congestion and pollution. WestConnex is destroying homes, public spaces, parks, wetlands, bushland, trees and wildlife. Instead of an out-of-countrol project costing billions, The Greens want money spent on building an integrated public transport network which will get us from home to jobs, family, friends and entertainment across Sydney.

  2. Green Spaces and Community Services

The Greens will commit at least $20million over 4 years to purchase and develop new art, youth and senior community spaces. We will create more green spaces. We will support the community to use and run our community spaces. We will incorporate solar panels, green and community spaces at Ashfield Pool.

  3. Restore local democracy

The Greens are committed to restoring local democracy and our first priority after the Council elections will be a plebiscite on the amalgamation for the three council areas. We will give residents the right to vote on this amalgamation.

  4. A 100% renewable energy future

The Greens will help residents with income-generating solar and battery storage using Council-backed investment schemes and bulk-buys. We will make the 3 council areas carbon-neutral by 2020 and introduce a suite of initiatives to build towards a 100% renewable future.

  5. More than the best coffee shops

The inner west has long been the home to musicians, artists and a diverse range of small businesses. The Greens want to preserve the vibrant mix of residential, light industry and commercial activities.

Our Heritage is not only the outstanding individual buildings but also the pedestrian friendly conservation areas in which they are located. The Greens want the state government to hand over Yasmar for community uses and add Haberfield to the State Heritage Register.

  6. Improve Pedestrian and Cyclist Safety

The Greens will build links and ramps to ensure our local cycling routes and footpaths connect us to our schools, shops, parks, train and light rail stations, libraries, pools and community centres.

We will deliver the Greenway, connecting the Cooks River to the Bays Run, investing a further $40 million over the next 4 years to improve our cycleways and footpaths.
