We are the driest continent on earth. Now, I can tell you this, if you damage your groundwater sources, if you contaminate aquifers, whether it's by chemicals or whether it's by allowing contaminated water from a coal seam to get into a fresh water aquifer, you cannot fix it. You can't rehabilitate it. You can dig a hole in the ground and fill it in and put the topsoil back and over time perhaps you will get...

Sydney metro solar panels checks to commence June 6

Fair Trading Minister Anthony Roberts today announced electrical safety for consumers would be the focus of at least 500 initial spot checks to be undertaken by NSW Fair Trading in coming weeks in the Sydney region.

Mr Roberts said Fair Trading inspectors would also examine the licensing of builders and electricians installing or connecting the work, as well as workmanship, home warranty insurance and any breaches of the Home Building Act 1989 and the Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act 2004.

“Fair Trading is planning this review involving 25 qualified inspectors targeting areas of Sydney where there has been significant uptake of solar panel technology,” he said.

Solar Bonus Scheme for NSW

Solar Bonus Scheme for NSW Last updated: 28 October 2010 The Solar Bonus Scheme is the NSW Government's gross feed-in tariff scheme. Through this scheme the Government has successfully reached its first milestone of 50 megawatts (MW) installed capacity. Including additional capacity installed since that milestone was reached, NSW has the largest amount of installed small scale photovoltaic (PV) systems of any jurisdiction.
Following a statutory review of the Scheme, the NSW Government has announced changes to the design of the Solar Bonus Scheme. Notably for new customers joining the Scheme the tariff rate has been reduced to 20 cents from 60 cents. The Scheme will also be capped at 300 megawatts (MW). This change reflects the substantial fall in PV system purchase costs over the past twelve months and also takes account of the generous support provided through the Commonwealth's Renewable Energy Target scheme.

The Big One (New Theatre 28-31 July 2010)

They called it *The Big One*. A few minutes after midnight on Good Friday, 24 March 1989, an environmental disaster occurred the consequences of which are still felt today. When an Exxon tanker spilled its cargo of crude oil off the coast of Valdez, Alaska, the devastation was catastrophic. This play – part docu-drama, part taut thriller – uncovers the complexity of the events to reveal the people behind the headlines, the grubby politics involved in protecting *Big Oil* and the terrible impact on individuals and the wider community.

Green ICT E-Waste

Abstract:E-Waste, Electronic and Electrical waste, provides significant opportunity and threat. E-waste contains valuable metals such as gold, silver, copper and nickel. It also contains expensive to produce and relatively easy to recycle aluminum and heavy metals lead and mercury. However, significant amounts of E-waste ends up buried in landfill, from where the lead and mercury leaches out, contaminates soil and water and enters the human food chain.
